Soap Box: Oh The Joys Of Parenting

I do believe the man child has Spring Fever. He has come home 2 consecutive days without a Happy Gram (a small card that pretty much lets you know they had a good day). So guess who will be dropping in on school tomorrow just to make sure the message of staying on green all day gets through? That's right...this guy.

You hate to threaten your kids but I will never forget watching Dr. Phil long before I even became a mom; he said you got to find what is important to your kids and use it as leverage. Unfortunately, the man child's thing never seems to be the same (tv, toys, etc). So neither is my consequence. Yesterday, I just fined his allowance $1, which is the consequence  but I also didn't turn the TV on at all. And you know what? I don't even think he noticed. But today says, he didn't care very much about that dollar this week. And he can survive on $4 spending money instead of $6. Not cool.

This weekend is Spring Carnival at his school. I have already pre-purchased 80 tickets for games, etc. I told him, if he even thinks about coming out of that school without a Happy Gram, we are not going to Spring Carnival and he will give his tickets away to his friends. I know it sounds harsh but I'm dead serious. I'm just not sure if he will have to hand them to someone on the spot, after school or if I'll take him on Saturday and he give them to a perfect stranger and we go home. I haven't decided. I'm not trying to traumatize him but I do need the message to hit home. One day every once in a while, ok. But 2 days back to back, you are just cutting up to cut up.

Whoa is me! Share your thoughts...I want to know, what would you do?

Bright Ideas: Get Up, Get Ready!

I often joke with my friends and family about what they didn't tell me about parenting. With that in mind, I've decided to create this segment  for parents (aunts/uncles, grandparents, and those who deal with kids may benefit too).

Each week, you can expect to find simple tricks to the trade for this unprediable journey, as well as, inspiration to make it one day after the next. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Today's Bright Idea:
Get Up & Get Dressed before your children daily. It really does help you to feel more in control of your morning and more prepared to take on whatever comes your way. I urge you to try it for the next 7days.
